Ashour Yacoub
Age: 22
Diagnosis: Losing Vision
Place of origin: Iraq
Story:
Ashour is 22 years old who was rapidly loosing vision. There were some contradictory reports from Iraq and Jordan that caused some confusion in his management.
Through collaborative efforts of the Medical Relief Project (MRP), Mr. Jonathan Youkhana, Dr. John Michael, and Dr. David Badawi, Ashour was brought to Chicago for proper assessment.
It appears that he has a rare hereditary (presumably autosomal recessive) condition with posterios microphthalmos (small eyes since birth) with high hyperopia (very far sighted) and bilateral papillomacular folds (folds/wrinkles in the central portion of the retina).
Ashour is currently under treatment. |
