Story:
Yousif is 3.5 years old Iraqi refugee in Amman, Jordan who never learnt how to speak because he could not hear secondary to early illness that made him loose his hearing ability.
The patient’s only hope is to have a Cochlear transplant that has to be performed before age of 5 to be effective.
The operation costs at least $20, 000, and 00. The family had sold all its possessions to no avail.
The patient was referred to Assyrian Medical Society by Rev. Yousif Hashweh of the Alliance Church of Amman, Jordan. The church had raised some money for the treatment fund. The Medical Relief Project of the Assyrian Medical Society approved covering 12.5% of the cost and was able to secure the help of the Thomas Deierlein Foundation for the child. The TD foundation committed to 50% of the cost.
The surgery was completed in Amman, Jordan and the child is making the expected recovery. He will be undergoing speech therapy and rehabilitation.
