Sandra Zuhair Beesho’

Age:9 Years Old
Diagnosis: Ventricular Septal Defect
Place of origin: Iraq
Story:

Sandra is a 9 years old female who was diagnosed in Iraq with large Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). She is our first patient on the second Turkey cardiac mission for Iraqi children in a collaborative effort between the Rotary Clubs in Istanbul, the Gift of Life International, and the Assyrian Medical Society.

The child is transported to Istanbul where she was met with the hospitality and the generosity of the Rotarians in Istanbul. She was subjected to angiogram which established the diagnosis of Tetralogy of Fallot that required a more complex intervention and additional conduit that would cost up to additional $14,000. The hard work of the Rotarian in Istanbul brought the additional cost to $5,000, which the Assyrian Medical Society agreed to pick up.

The surgery was completed successfully after which stayed for 6 days in the hospital. The patent and her mother were taken back to Nineveh, Iraq safely. The patient is making a fast recovery.

We would like to thank the following Rotarians from Istanbul, Mr. Gokyar Karsit, Mr. Cenk Cerrah, Mr. Umit Isigollu, Mr. Yavuz Gursoy, and Mr. Rob Raylman, Executive Director, Gift of Life International.
